Tyner Nudges West

Tyner made a sweep of their hard fought two game series with West last night wih a 38-31 win in the Bulldog arena. The Redmen's stats now stand at nine and six compared with West's four and 13. Tyner nipped West earlier this year 49-47. Last night's affair was a slow defensive contest with the Tyner victory margin coming through the foul lane. Both teams hit 13 fielders, but Tyner hit 12 charity tosses as opposed to five Bulldog one pointers.

Tyner employed a zone defense in the second half after pressing the Bulldog five in the first half. West used a zone most of the game. As balanced scoring indicates, both teams were forced to work for good shots as a result of the defensive nature of the game. Al Wojcik and Jim Gangloff had 10 points apiece for West while Jim Waller and Earl Smith had nine each for Tyner.

Tyner won the exciting "B" team game by a 24-22 margin.

Tyner Nudges Hamlet, 43-41 at Centennial

Tyner jumped off to an early lead and then held on in the last half to nip Hamlet, 43 to 41, last night in Centennial auditorium.

With two minutes to go Marion Shearin's rebound shot put Hamlet ahead 41 to 40. Louis Ecker, of Tyner, countered with a swishing one- hander and Redman Jim Waller hit a charity shot after Bob Orr's fifth personal to give Tyner 43 tallies. Hamlet waived three foul shots to take the ball out in a vain attempt to tie the score.

Earl Smith with nine points paced Tyner to a 16 to 5 first quarter lead. Five free throws were all Hamlet could show for the price.

A spurt midway in the second quarter pulled Hamlet up to 20 to 15 with two and a half minutes remaining, but Tyner added eight points against Dick Welch's free throw to make the scoreboard read 28 to 16, Tyner, at halftime.

In the next five minutes Hamlet scored 11 points to Tyner's one to trail 29 to 27. Bob Orr hit a free throw and Luther Ferch hit two for Hamlet and Earl Smith hit two free shots ending the third quarter at 31-30 in Tyner's favor.

Welch hit a free throw and Orr made four straight free tosses while Dick Balke, Larry Lemert and Ecker added from the field for Tyner to start off the last period. After Ferch connected with a free throw, Waller hit a driving layup. Ronnie Shei made three points and shearin brought the score to 41-40.

Tyner hit 15 of 56 for 27 percent and the Tigers made 11 out of 48 attempts for 22 percent. However, Hamlet was more accurate at the free throw line, sinking 19 out of 29, while Tyner made 13 out of 23.
