We are glad that spring is here, even though it is cold, we can play outside.

Last Friday our room mothers, Mrs. Long and Mrs. Thompson, gave us a very nice party. We enjoyed the games and refreshments. This party was honoring children whose birthdays occurred in January to April inclusive. some of the other mothers came too.

We are sorry Keith Neiswonger is ill.

We are glad to have kenneth Haynes back at school following an operation.

David Drake, Joyce Carlson, and Gayle Schoberg all had birthdays recently and treated us.

The Bluebirds and Brownies are making individual books on favorite subjects as a correlation of English, spelling, and writing.

We are very pleased with our new Science Readers. We will be reading them soon.

In art we are making a Mother's day surprise.

Jimmie Martin's team and Sally Brubaker's team were winners in our number race.

The birds are coming back from the south and are finding our room a nice place to land. Several of the children have made bird helpers. We are just beginning the study of spring flowers.

Extra nice health scrap books were made this year.

A short synopsis of books suitable for this grade are being

given each evening, so that the children will become interested in outside reading. Later the book is given to someone who wants to read it.

Our room recently celebrated Linda Lou Stull's and DuWayne Burch's birthdays. Their mother's brought games. Refreshments of ice cream, cake, and candy were served. Thanks again, Mrs. Stull and Mrs. Burch for a lovely time.

All the students are excited about the trip to South Bend. We are planning to visit the Northern Indiana Historical Museum and take a trip through the South Bend Tribune. In the after noon the bus will take us out to the spot where LaSalle left the St. Joseph River and portaged across to the Kankakee River on Dec.6th, 1679. He was possibly the first white man in Indiana. Also we intend to visit the Council Oak in Highland Park Cemetery where LaSalle two years later called the local Indians together to form a defensive alliance between the Miamis and Illinois against the invading Iroquois of the East. This old oak was a towering giant of the forest in 1681.

Some of the details of the trip have not yet been worked out. Our room-mothers, Mrs. Welcome Norris and Mrs. Milton Newberg are going along as chaperones.

We have enjoyed several birthday treats in our class recently. Again we say "thank you" to Terry McGovern and Doris Kinney for the birthday surprises they shared with us.
